It's said men are from Mars and women are from Venus, but an all India in app survey conducted by US based dating app Tinder reveals that when it comes to preferences in their partners, men and women have similar interests.
The survey which was done in the run up to the Valentine’s Day was taken by 15,000 people across the country. And it concludes that both men and women value humour and share two of the top three characteristics when looking for a partner, which are shared values/interests and a sense of humour.
The most desired qualities among women were sense of humour with 24.5% of women respondents opting for it followed by shared values and interests at 24% and then intelligence/well-read with 22.9% women repsondents looking intellect in their partners.
“I think it is really important that I am with someone who can make laugh during good and bad times and that is why sense of humour becomes a very important trait in men, “said one of the 26-year-old female respondents who did not wish to be named.
When it came to men, the most desired qualities were good looks with 30.6% of the total respondents voting for it followed by sense of humour with 25.2%.
Just like their women counterparts, men also preferred women who shared the same values and interests with 24.1% of the, male respondents voting for it. The only significant difference between the two genders was that while women preferred intellect, men were more likely to go by the looks.
“The results of this survey were certainly interesting. We’re often asked about how men and women differ in their behaviour and preferences in online dating, but we’ve found that men and women value the same characteristics in a partner.” said Taru Kapur, Tinder India head.
Kapur added that it was quite a revelation for people who are seeking to forge meaningful connections online as they now know that there are others who share their values and interests.
Tinder India has seen a 20% increase in traffic on its app due the Valentine’s season. As per the numbers provided by the company it records daily swipes of 14 million per day on an average.
The survey also shed some light on the preferences of Indian men and women for ideal first date settings with respect to Valentine’s Day. The findings showed that the top preferences for both men and women were doing something low key or causal as opposed to a wine and dine option.
